Due to all of the weather related school closings, we have decided to extend our classes for Session 3 students and have obtained facility use approval from all of our Session 3 locations. For classes meeting at Gar-Field High School, Stonewall Middle School, our Adult Learning Center, and the Prince William SkillSource Center (ESOL classes), this would mean that classes will be extended for the following six meeting dates: Tues., April 22;  Weds., April 23; Thurs., April 24; Tues., April 29; Weds., April 30 and Thurs., May 1.

These are some proposed goals for the class.


Short term goals:
I want to improve my writing skills. I want to be able to write short paragraphs expressing my ideas.
I want to improve my reading skills. I want to be able to read and understand documents that are written in English.
I want to improve my speaking skills.  I want to be able to talk to other people in English; I want to use good pronunciation and structure to guarantee others can understand what I want to say.
I want to improve my listening skills. I want to be able to listen and understand different recordings and people. 
I want to improve my four language skills (listening, reading, speaking, and writing). I want to be able to successfully communicate in English.
I want to improve my English grammar and spelling. I want to be able to write well-structured sentences and paragraphs.
I want to improve my vocabulary. I want to be able to use new words to express my ideas.
I want to use technology to access new content. I want to be able to use different technology that will increase my opportunities to access new and different information. 

Long term goals:
I want to be able to go to a parent-teacher conference and discuss my kid’s progress.
I want to be ready to start my GED classes.
I want to enroll in higher education.
I want to carry out any kind of conversation with my neighbors in English.

I want to be respected and accepted in my community. I want to be able to help and interact with members of my neighborhood.

Welcome to the SOAR class Spring 2014. Here you can post your ideas, questions, thoughts or anything you consider valuable for the class.

I will also provide links, files and videos that will help you on your quest for a better English level.

WHY?

You will need access to a computer and the Internet, or you can come to the Technology Lab.
You can practice your English on the Internet at any time that is convenient for you: mornings, afternoons, evening, or even at midnight!

HOW?

To register, email Melissa Keith at keithmc@pwcs.edu with:


  • your first and last name
  • classroom teacher's name/class level
  • your class location Example: "Gar-Field HS"

ATTENTION!

Please spell your first and last name exactly as you wrote it on your registration form.

We will register your into our class. It may take one week to register. Once your are enrolled we will email you with your sing in information, password,  and directions.
